The empowerment of University of Genoa and Fincantieri Group collaboration

In the academic year 2019/20 will be introduced a new subject in “Integrated Product Support and Lifecycle Management”. An opportunity for the students of master degree in Mechanical Engineering – Engineering and manufacturing and Yacht Design developed in collaboration between the University of Genoa – Polo Guglielmo Marconi (in La Spezia) and Issel Nord, a Fincantieri Group company specialized in logistics engineering and services with significant additional value.

The new subject is intended for students of the senior year as a meeting point between two entities: university and industry. The course will be held entirely in English by Issel Nord staff, and its content will be compliant with the latest international standards, benefiting from the sponsorship of the Product Support & Specifications Group of ASD, the AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe, and it will concern also the software tools developed by the company.

The initiative stems from the intent to increase the educational offer with Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) matters. The approach is highly professionalizing, offering graduation thesis opportunities and internships directly after the examination. These will facilitate the recruiting process aimed at young graduates employment.

“Integrated Product Support and Lifecycle Management” concerns relevant issues for both courses of study, since the topics presented can be applied to the logistic and maintenance support of complex systems, represented, for example, by mega-yachts in the seamanship sector and by defense systems or industrial plants in the field of mechanical engineering.

As a result, the two master degrees, that have included the course in their programs in close cooperation with industry, will extend the range of contents of their educational offer, increasing their students opportunities to enter in the labour market.
